BOHEMIAN – What is YOUR style?

BOHEMIAN – Characteristics:

The bohemian dresser is fearless with their inclusions of ethnic prints, beads, studs, patchwork, peasant inspired skirts, rock’n'roll vests and classic white Tshirts.  The eclectic nature is represented by ensembles that are as diverse as they are colouful!

From work to art gallery openings, no matter the occasion these modern boho beauties capture what it is to sport funky fashion in a laid back manner. They also represent nonconformist attitudes and the desire to express themselves aesthetically.

BOHEMIAN – Closet:

Reflecting the notion of freedom, a look into the wardrobe of an arty bohemian will reveal an array of peasant blouses, paisley dresses, baggy pants, large gemstones, charms, dangling earrings, and a plethora of colours. There wardrobe itself is a patchwork of collectable fashions. It can feature the latest fads (if baggy/comfortable/generally boho) as well as grandma’s old crocheted cardigan.

Structured or tight garments aren’t equated with motion, therefore cant often be found. However if they do make an appearance, they are usually paired with an item that has incredible flow to balance out the proportions.

BOHEMIAN – Work and Play:However, as the times have developed, so has the modern Boho, and a stable job is more so than not included in their day to day schedules. Although, as structure is not the first choice of outerwear, a jacket or tailored dress are more likely to be replaced by a pirate themed ruffled shirt and flared pants. Fine choices for industries not so corporately based – but if in a position where a suit is required, opt for more conventional, and fitted garments which are available in a range of natural fabrics – keeping to your earthy inclination.

In terms of social attire you represent a consciously relaxed but finely put together figure. You ooze a ‘cool’ quality and project a very confident and artistically aware nature and although seemingly mixed & at times crazily matched, your attire is always distinctly ‘put-together’.

BOHEMIAN – Shopping:

A bohemian often considers his or her body, including its fashion elements, as a work of art – therefore shopping is always a treasure hunt! Apparel can be sourced in a wide range of stores from pop places, to top end boutiques, to your mothers’ drawers. Due to most venues carrying items considered acceptable for the bohemian wardrobe shopping is less of a chore and more of a discovery for you as you rummage the stores (second-hand in particular) for wearable items. And since you have such an eclectic taste, there seems to always be something to be found. You might find a range of embellished, fringed or beaded clothing, punk T-shirts, sunglasses, unconventional gypsy skirts or tie-die body suits, scarves, moccasins or leather boots – the choices seem endless!

BOHEMIAN – Change:

Although you carry yourself with a proud stance of un-moved style due to fashion fads and pop culture, at times there are occasions that call on a respectable dress code. This may range from weddings to funerals to office meetings – in which any case you should be prepared for. Keep true to your style, but appropriately donned, by simply toning down the eclectic nature. Go for the ‘either/or’ rule – choose EITHER a poets purple velvet jacket but pair it with some gorgeous black leggings OR choose a flowing paisley dress but leave off the belli-dancing belt and hippy head-band. Instead pair it with a more conservative clutch and beautiful jewel incrusted sandals. Both the dress and the jacket would be an over-kill. Balance your style and make your style point at the same time without going overboard. If in doubt, take the last item you put on OFF. In some cases less is more.
