My boyfriend – (quote!) thought “they all looked like pin cushions”… He works in finance, but in all honesty, he picked the theme!
With an impressive 33 models entering and exiting via escalators to the trombone voice and violent thump of ‘Beautiful People’ by Marilyn Manson, Marc Jacobs presented Hong Kong with an A/W’11 range that was as bold as the poke-a-dots he swarmed over his collection!
Mesh poke-a-dots, stocking poke-a-dots, over-sized sequined poke-a-dots – The range of circles that evening fell into the realm of outstandingly outrageous in the truly twisted sense that seems to occur in all Marc Jacob collections.
Ever true to his conservatively high collars and long hem-lines, Marc Jacobs modernized 1940′s silhouettes and topped them with fantastic little beret hats that strikingly looked rather medical in their chin-strapping application.
The mini-mouse-eared pockets he fronted his lace dresses with – a shape echoed throughout the collection – although overbearing in size, surprisingly added to the quirkiness of the evenings outfits.
Marc Jacobs, with his vintage soaked emerald greens, maroon reds, muted purple and midnight blue thrilled with a collection that bared his eccentric qualities to the fashionably awaiting Hong Kong audience.
And just as he repeated his statement on the night, so will I now… Fall/Winter ’11 = POKE-A-DOTS!
They are a must!
