Now Donatella Versace does not strike me as an athlete by any means.
Sure, she’s skeleton thin with a fat count that would equal that of an athletes, but the sexually sophisticated designer in a pair of sneakers – I’ve never seen it snapped by paparazzi and I doubt I ever will!
However, she must have had an energetic burst of inspiration for her latest collection – as it’s so outrageously sporty!
Donatella teamed up with Scotland-born designer Christopher Kane, combining their creative talents to form their ‘Versus’ collection in Milan, Italy.
The seasonal colour trends of pastel pinks, lavender and soft turquoise contrasted against black undertones and were set upon pleated skirts that were obvious plays on cheerleaders classic attire.
Never-before-seen patterns and patent leather strappy sandals in a multitude of colors made this runway show absolutely original while still paying tribute to each designers signature.
The fresh, young and sporty collection was said, by Kane himself to be inspired by sports.
(NOTE the word ‘inspired’! This does not mean you can now step out in your basketball mesh singlet or boxing shorts! Instead draw sporty elements into your overall wardrobe without looking like your off to the gym!)
In the collection there were lavender on white satin dresses with black satin trims as well as sports jerseys. Cheerleader skirts, brightly colored book bags, and letterman-style sweaters brought this collection right back to high school, however, in a more sophisticated way.
Sports is absolutely playing a big part in the direction of fashion this season and is a trend to pay attention too!
To make sure your styled in a manner that screams “fashion” as apposed to “gym-bunny”, DON’T think that mixing and matching your gym apparel into your wardrobe will work! Buy specific sporty designs from a fashion boutique instead of a sport’s store and make sure to work these items in with your already existing wardrobe.
For example, wear a pleated skirt with a buttoned-up shirt (instead of basket ball top) OR wear a mesh tank top with a pair of classy tapered black pants.
Choose ONE piece of sporty clothing to introduce to your outfit and whatever you do – never accompany it with sneakers!
Keep it fashionable and keep it glam!
