On my first Friday night endeavor with my new ‘Ombre’ hair, I meet my Mum & sister for after work drinks.
My sister on arrival was slightly confused at the technical term, but adored the new look – my mum on the other hand…
“OHHHH OMBRÉ!” (without me saying anything!)
“When I was 14 I used to dream that my bridesmaids would be wearing blue ombré dresses,”
And here I thought it was a flash-fad word! But it turns out to be a classic!
BTW – The word Ombre is a French word for shading or graduating. Usually the color blends from dark to light with no harsh transition line.
Inspired by Pinterest pics, when I contacted Andy (colourist at QG Privet I at the Four Seasons, armed with a board of hair Inspo – he was keeeeeen to experiment with me! (yesssssa – love a colourist who’s ready to break a few rules and has the knowledge of how exactly to do that the right way!)
The process made me look like a mermaid, with silver sheets of long tassels as apposed to the lion mane of foils I was used to.
And the attention to detail that went into the application – awesome!
The technique was a lot more complicated that I originally anticipated!
On one hand Andy didn’t want a straight line around my head separating the dark ash blonde from the platinum blonde, so had to merge the colours effortlessly – yet perfectly – as the merge had to occur at the same places from right ear to left.
All I can say was that I was relieved to be with a colour stylist who drew on years (7 to be exact!) of experience.
(ABOVE: Andy – he’s A.Mazing BTW!)
The result was exactly as I had imagined!
Ombré represents that fine balance between bouncy and dirty-rock blonde – its the best of both worlds merged into one modern, yet EASY to carry off hairstyle.
Now I booked in with a pro and absolutely think you need to for this technique!
Andy – he’s your man – well, he’s mine (my colourist-man) but I’ll share with you…
