Hong Kong seems to have an obsession with umbrellas during the summer – now I understand the thought theory behind this habit, however the effectiveness of an umbrella can absolutely be obtained in a more fashionable of way – via a HAT!
With a liking for white skin, the general practice of being skin sensitive and safe, covering-up and remaining untouched by the sun, Hong Kong has a general dis-like for the implications of the summer sun and the damage it can cause.
While sun-block and long sleeves are common practice – so too is the obtrusive umbrella. Which, while providing mass amounts of shade, also inhibits other pedestrians and if your a heel wearer, or on the taller side like me – the danger of getting poked in the eye,/mouth/neck is as common as the sunny days themselves!
The alternative – wear a hat!
With styles that vary from being cute and fitting sung, to extending dramatically and covering the wearer perfectly, there is a style appropriate for everyone.
And it’s not just personal preferences that hats adapt too – but also events!
A hat can be worn as casually as it can formally, making this particular accessory both distinguished when necessary as well as casually cool!
My pick for the season are the smaller more chic hats which yes, do provide minimal shade BUT when paired with sunblock make for the perfect summer accessory!
This seasons summer hat styles can be worn with hair up down, slicked back, scrunched to the side – any style is appropriate and when it comes to the rules of wearing hats – none seem to apply!
This particular fashion trend works because of it’s simplicity – there are no dos or don’ts making the summer hat an easy add-on to any outfit.
Take your personal pic of hat, swapping out the summer umbrella for something that is way for fashionably on-track!.
