As a recent article in the Guardian said: ‘…no trouser style has really given the slim or skinny leg an actual run for its money’ - perhaps the time has come to challenge that perception men!?

Stepping out as a Style Maverick in a pair of wide leg-pants may be all that is needed to swing the mass majority from skinny trousers, to a wider and more fashion forward trouser!

For seasons, mens trousers have simply got narrower and narrower, becoming the acceptable norm of mens wear.
The gap between the classic ‘straight-cut’, which for decades was the conventional cut that the majority of men went for, and ‘skinny’ has been blurred, resulting in the skinny cut becoming the standard norm.
But just as you may have gotten used the tight cut – designers have decided to return to a more dramatic (and not to mention comfortable!) option – the wider pant.

Emporio Armani, Dries Van Noten and Yves Saint Laurent are among the many designers who are presenting wider pants, both as separates and in suits – as are Lanvin and Calvin Klein.
And this is not a new movement!
As you might know, fashion works well ahead of the times. It presents collections and cuts well before the mainstream are ready for them, so by the time the new silhouettes do trickle through to the high street boutiques, the designs are familiar and not as daunting as they first seemed to be when on the catwalk.
This process merges the gap between designers ideas and customers wardrobes!
And the same applies for the wide leg trouser.
It has been presented on the catwalks for some seasons already, and it’s now time to start incorporating the trend into your everyday wardrobe!
As quite a versatile cut, the wide leg trouser can be worn in a very casual manner – paired with sports-influenced pieces.
TIP: Make sure to err on the side of smart rather than scruffy! Overcoats, shirts and pullovers will help you maintain you sharpness.
Or, if you prefer a smarter look, tone down the width of the trouser leg and wear the style in the same way you would wear any suit – just because the trouser is wide doesn’t mean that it should be portrayed as an untidy, or unfinished look.
Be sure to match in the colour pallets and pattern fads of the season to keep the pant modern.
Take inspiration from the ‘Carven’ 2012 Summer Menswear collection attached – you may just find that the wide-leg pant overrides the skinny simply via its versatility and comfort.
